How to use your Firestick without a remote

There are many ways to operate your Firestick without a remote when you have lost one and cannot purchase another immediately. To do this, follow the methods given below.

Method 1: Using the Firestick App

If you had misplaced your remote or lost it, then nothing much to worry about because you can easily navigate your Firestick using your smartphone. To do this, follow the steps given below:

Step 1:You first need to install the Fire Television app for your respective device.

Step 2: Then sign in if you are new or login if you already have an account.

Step 3: After signing in, your smartphone will automatically detect your Firestick. Now tap on your device to pair it.

Keep in mind that your smartphone and Firestick need to be connected to the same network via your home Wi-Fi.

Step 4: Here, you need to enter the 4-digit code displayed on your television screen.

Step 5:Finally, your phone will be ready to operate your Firestick. You can do almost everything that you used to with your remote controller.

Method 2: Using your TV remote

Not everyone is aware that you can take the help of your television remote to control your Firestick. Television was equipped with something called the HDMI-CEC feature, which allows multiple HDMI-connected devices to interact with each other. Whenever you press a button on your remote, it passes your Firestick instructions using that HDMI-CEC. Though it does not support all the shortcuts and button combinations, you can easily navigate and do basic things if you lose your Fire TV remote.

Method 3: Using Voice commands

You can also take in use of Alexa or Google Voice to operate your remote using voice commands. For example, if you have an Alexa speaker or Google home, you can use it to play content on your television. Just say, “Alexa or Hey Google play X on my Fire TV,” and it will follow all your commands.

But again, Keep in mind your Alexa or Google Home, and Firestick needs to be on the same WiFi network.

Method 4: Using Firestick without WiFi

If your WiFi is showing some problems, or let’s assume you don’t have wifi at home, then you can still connect your Firestick using a WiFi hotspot. To do this, you will need two smartphones, one for creating a hotspot and another for using the television application. After you gathered them, follow the steps below:

Step 1: Start by launching settings on your smartphone. Next, go to WiFi and Networks and from there turn on hotspot and tethering. Now rename the hotspot to the WiFi network that your Firestick was connected to.

Step 2: Next, change the password to the same one as the previous network.

Step 3: When you are done configuring the WiFi hotspot, switch it on and restart your Television. It will connect to the new hotspot.

Step 4: Connect the second phone with the hotspot and install the Firestick application. Log in or sign in to the application, and it will detect your Firestick.

Step 5: Now, enter the code displayed on your screen, and then your phone will be paired via hotspot. You can now perform anything just like your remote.

Method 5: Using Mouse and Keyboard

If none of the above methods came in much aid to your problem solving, you could connect your computer’s keyboard and mouse to the Fire TV. You can click either wireless or wired keyboard and mouse to your Television, and it will be working flawlessly. You might need to purchase a separate OTG or USB splitter if you don’t have the ports.

Method 6: Buying a new one

If you are not comfortable with any of the above steps or are still facing a problem, then purchasing a new remote is the only option left for you. Just check before you buy that it is compatible with your Firestick model or not.
