The Amazon Fire Stick is a bit of an expensive investment, so once you have it, you want to ensure that you get a bang for your buck. As a fan of all kinds of entertainment, you’ve probably already heard of an app called Kodi, which is open-source software that lets you stream content from a variety of different places. And the best part is, you can use Kodi to stream content from places that the Fire Stick normally wouldn’t allow you access to.
However, Kodi might not be the right choice for you, for whatever reason. If you have an Android-based TV, you might prefer another alternative, and there’s a very good one available that basically performs the same function as Kodi. Read on to find out more!
What Is SPMC?
Semper Media Center (SMPC) is an app that was actually developed by one of the people who also maintained Kodi, and it provides the same services. It also runs on other Android devices, so you can use it wherever you like, but you can also use it on your Fire Stick. While there are many apps like Kodi out there that provide similar services (i.e., allowing you to access a whole lot of content that Fire Stick might normally block), SPMC is one of the best choices.
Its UI is very similar to Kodi’s, and it’s available on the Google Play Store. However, you might run into a challenge when it comes to installation. The SPMC app isn’t available on the Amazon App Store. However, don’t worry! If you’ve got your heart set on using this app to access content, we can help you out.
How To Install SPMC On Firestick and Fire TV Stick
There are two ways you can install SPMC so you can use it on your Amazon Fire Stick. We’ll go through them in detail for your benefit.
Method #1. Install SPMC On Firestick Using Downloader App
Downloader is an app that you can use to access apps that are not available on the Amazon App Store. You may have the Downloader app already, but in case you don’t, follow the steps given below.
STEP 1. First, you need to enable downloading apps from unknown sources on your Fire Stick. Go to the settings menu and choose the ‘My Fire TV’ option. It may also be listed as ‘Devices.’
STEP 2. From the list of options available, click ‘Developer Options. You should then have a list of two to choose from, ‘ABD Debugging’ and ‘Apps from Unknown Sources. Ignore the first option, and turn on the ‘Apps from Unknown Sources’ option. As you can guess, turning this on will allow you to install apps that are not in the Amazon App Store. If you are only turning on this option to install the Downloader app, be sure to switch it off later for added safety.
After you’ve switched on ‘Apps from Unknown Sources,’ check if ‘ADB Debugging’ (the option you ignored earlier) is on. If it’s not on, turn it on as well, as it will help to debug any apps you’re using, including the Downloader app. Any issues that pop up can be resolved using this tool.
STEP 3. Now that you’ve enabled both options under ‘Developer Options,’ let’s move on to getting hold of the Downloader app. Find the Downloader app by searching your home screen and press ‘Find.’ Once the Downloader app comes up, confirm the installation. If you get a pop-up, press ‘Allow.’ You should now have the app on your Fire Stick.
STEP 4. Nearly there! From the home screen, use the search bar to find the SPMC app. You can also use the links mentioned below. Press ‘go.’ Once the apk file has been found, you can start downloading it. Just open the file, and the SPMC app will launch. Ta-da!
Method #2. Install SPMC On Firestick Using ES File Explorer
The ES File Explorer app is a useful app to have. Not only can you use it to install apps from unknown or third-party sources, but you can also use it as a file manager of sorts. This is a pretty popular app, and a lot of people who own Fire Sticks appreciate having it around! You can also use it to unpack zip and rar files, which is handy, and it can store data on the cloud as well. Unlike the Downloader app, the ES File Explorer app is available on the Amazon App Store, so you can just directly install it.
STEP 1. Installing the ES File Explorer app should be a cinch. Go to your home screen using the Fire Stick, and search for ‘ES File Explorer.’
STEP 2. Once you’ve got the right app, click ‘Get’ so you can download it on your Fire Stick.
STEP 3. Once the app is downloaded successfully and then installed, open it. There will be several options, including one called ‘Downloader.’ This is the one we want.
STEP 4. Open ‘Downloader,’ and you should get a screen with a bunch of tabs at the bottom, including one called ‘New.’ Click on ‘New,’ and you’ll get a pop-up asking for a link.
In ‘Path,’ find an apk from either of the two links provided earlier (this one, and also this). In ‘Name,’ you can put down ‘SPMC.’ Then click ‘Download Now’ to seal the deal. Once the file installs, you can open it and access whatever content you like!
Is Using SPMC Legal?
You’re absolutely in the clear when downloading SPMC. However, bear in mind that there is content you can access through it that might not adhere to the laws in your country. If you’re accessing pirated content, you should be aware that this might be a risk. In this case, using a VPN might sound like a good idea, so you can encrypt your data and disguise your IP address. Nord VPN, Express VPN, and CyberGhost VPN are some good options, but there are countless VPN services available for you to choose from. Better safe than sorry!
So now you know all about how to install the SPMC app on your Fire Stick. As you’ve seen, whichever method you use, it’s really quite simple! You don’t need to do anything complicated. As an app, it also receives regular updates, so you don’t need to worry about running into frequent issues while using it. You can also run it on other platforms as long as you get hold of an Android emulator.
It also has a pass-through audio feature, as well as voice recognition, so it’s a great app to have. So if you’ve been finding that a lot of content you want to access simply isn’t available to you on Fire Stick, SPMC is the solution. Make sure you’ve taken some protective measures, and get to viewing!
