Like an Android Smartphone, an Android TV box offers many options that include a broad range of internet-connected services that a regular TV can’t provide. It gives you nearly the same number of services like that on a computer. An Android TV offers media streaming, web browsing, game playing, app installing, and most importantly, Internet Protocol Television (IPTV). The IPTV lets you stream any video from your TV via the internet.

Nowadays, almost all TVs provide an Ethernet option at the back of the TV to connect to the internet. Connecting to the internet through the Ethernet cable can give you a much more stable link than any other means. The installation process is also very easy and straightforward. You will need an Ethernet cable to connect to your TV and the modem or router. Set up a home network connection and select the option on your TV as similar to connecting a laptop, and thus, you are ready to use the internet.
Reasons For Ethernet Error On Android TV
Usually, a wired Ethernet connection purely plugs and play, but sometimes that’s not the case. Due to some error, you may see your Android TV Ethernet not working error.
- It can be due to various reasons such as a software issue, a damaged ethernet cable.
- This error is also standard when there is a change in the Home Network Configurations.
- It can also be caused due to Viruses.
This is what you need to find out what that reason can be. To make things simple for you, we have given below some of the solutions to troubleshoot your Ethernet error.
Ways To Fix Android TV Ethernet Now Working
Method #1: Check the Connection
To make a successful connection, you first need to connect to the Ethernet. This can be done by checking your Network Connection settings:
- Press the Home button, using your Android TV remote control to display the Android TV homepage.
- Now go to the Settings.
- Select the Network and then move on to Network Setup.
- Click on the View Network Status.

NOTES: Check all the below given configurations are “OK” or not. screen.
- If an Ethernet cable is connected from the TV to the router or modem. Then you will see this physical Connection shown as OK on the screen.
- Local Access should show as OK on the TV screen, ensuring that the TV sees the router.
- Internet Access should show as OK on the TV screen, ensuring that the TV is connected to the internet receiver.
Method #2: Are the Wires Connected Properly?
If the above method was not useful, try checking the connection between your devices. What you have to do is:
- Make sure to safely connect the Ethernet cable to the TV and the router.
- If the connection is not getting established on one LAN port, then try the other LAN ports available on the router.
- You can also disconnect the Ethernet cable from the TV to check whether you have an active internet connection or not. For this, use a computer or a similar device to access the internet after connecting that LAN cable to the device.
If your ethernet is still not working. Then you will have to try some technical changes, move to the next step.
Method #3: Check the IP Address
- Make sure that your Android TV shows an active IP Address.
If your Android TV flashes or starts an IP Address with the number 169, then your TV has obtained the wrong IP Address. - In such cases, you should manually set an IP address on the TV.
- You can simply do this by going to settings -> Wi-Fi Network-> Advanced Options-> IP settings.

- Here choose to select manually and enter an active IP address.
If it’s still not working, move to the following method.
Method #4: Reconnect all Cables
Once you have tried all that, you should also check for physical errors. After following the above steps and making sure that the modem or the router are connected to the Internet, try the following steps:

- Remove the Ethernet cable from the TV and the modem or router and keep all network equipment, such as cable, modem, and router, on standby. Make sure to turn them off and unplug them for at least 1 minute.
- Now, please turn off your Android TV and unplug it from the electric socket for at least 1 minute.
Method #5: Reset Your Android TV Box
After trying all of the above steps, if you face the Ethernet connection error, then Reset your TV to Factory Settings.
NOTE: Once the reset is done, complete the initial setup that involves the Network Setup.
- Boot the Android box into Recovery Mode.
- You will have to find the reset button located on either side of its power button.

- Then press the reset button 10 seconds, and when the power switches to ” turned on,” you will the “android logo,” now, let it go.
- With this, you will successfully boot into recovery.
- Now you will have to select “Wipe data or factory reset” from the provided options.
- You will see a warning. Select “Yes,” and continue,

- After that, select the “Reboot system now” option.

With that, you have successfully reset your Android TV box to its factory setting. Now try to connect your device to ethernet. It will start working.
Conclusion:
We have seen many times that the Ethernet issue gets resolved with the above-listed steps. But, after trying all the steps, if the problem does not get resolved, then your Android TV may need servicing from a professional.
I’ve got a strange issue with my Sony Android TV. If connected via Ethernet, I can’t watch IPTV. I can only watch IPTV, if I’m connected via WIFI.
I can still watch Netflix, YouTube etc, if connected via Ethernet, just not IPTV.
x2 same here. BUT I swapped the Router (TpLink) with another one (Huawei) and all worked as sunshine. Now back to the more expensive TpLink and I troubleshoot the settings to figure out which one prevents the TV from working with YouTube/Netflix/etc
